We’re a fairly young company, but our fresh perspective and commitment to cutting-edge design have already made waves in the industry.

Nigel Ryan

Nigel brings to Pocono Exteriors business acumen, project management and people skills, design sensibility, and construction experience.

“Steve Jobs once said that you can’t connect the dots looking forward; but you can connect them looking backward. While Pocono Exteriors is new to the , I’ve been preparing for this my entire life. Looking back, I can see how the dots connect.

My handyman skills and design instincts were honed early in life. Growing up in a household with a do-it-yourselfer father and enterprising mother, there was one project after another. My humble beginnings meant I quickly got my feet wet in construction in and around our home, doing everything from casting concrete, to building kitchen cabinets from scratch.

Décor and mood setting came into focus in my teens, helping out in my mother’s restaurant, and later on, in my twenties, when I established my own. I learned that in order to create an experience one has to envision how people will interact within a space. Staging – intentionally creating an ambiance, and careful furniture selection and placement – influences feelings and behavior. Furthermore, I gained a true appreciation for service and hospitality.

My design skills and creativity were sharpened during my 7-year tenure as Marketing Director at Riverdale Y Community Center where I impressed the importance of creating good energy within our walls. I believed members should feel welcomed, uplifted, and motivated, and I knew that the space itself had a role to play in this – color, imagery, furnishings… During my time there, I redesigned the lobby, designed a new functional training studio, and helped stage many large events including fundraising galas. I now bring these instincts to homeowners who want to create inspired outdoor spaces.

Throughout my personal and professional journey, even as I pursued other careers, I never stopped doing design and construction. Whether it was a side job, or just to save a buck, I’ve overhauled bathrooms, redone kitchens, and built deck stairs and patios. Long before launching Pocono Exteriors, I flexed my muscles on my own spaces, and those of family and friends. This hands-on experience allows me to easily empathize with homeowners’ anxieties throughout the process, to lead my building team, and to interact intelligently with sub-contractors.

My studies in Business, Communications and, more recently, Landscape Design inform everything I do, and who I am as a manager and problem solver. My goal is to improve lives through the delivery of well-designed spaces. I look forward to helping you acquire the outdoor space of your dreams.”
